WORLD SPORT BETTING CODES

Not only would students gain a briefcase-ful mix of transferable skills but I want to suggest that there is an intrinsic value to our occupation as system developers that has direct relevance to the evolution of our species. Big claim perhaps. My argument is this: In developing a betting system what we are concerned with is how we use the information available to us from our environment to inform and direct our choices.

Through our screens as well as our physical senses we are exposed to a near infinity of horserace related data and experience. We deem some of it good, some bad, some incomprehensible. We pick bits, mix them together and make our selection. This is the same process that drives conscious evolution. We see it in the animal world as well as our own. A cat watches a mouse that it has failed to catch in several attempts.

From the information received through its senses the cat has to decide what its best course of action is. Should it creep closer or pounce now? Clearly the cat does not have these concepts in its brain but a cognitive process of this nature is taking place. At least it was before Whiskers. A fireman decides whether to enter a burning building. A builder decides which material to use. This choice making process is everywhere in our world and all the time. Since entering the room you are in now, you will have made a thousand choices although most of them you will be unaware of.

Where to sit, which part of the screen to look at now, when to press the mouse button, and so on. If we study how we make choices, or rather how we make systemsof choosing , then we study and will come to understand more about conscious evolution. It is this which enables our progress as a species.

Studying the development of a horseracing systems, where we face a challenge in which the odds are literally stacked against us, is a microcosm of study of conscious evolution — of how we develop a process to filter, select and apply information in order to overcome challenges. By studying how we develop such systems I genuinely believe what we could learn could have value for us all.

As a personal bonus it can make us more money and give us a cool and unexpected way to answer when one of our mates shakes his head at our latest loss and asks why we bet on horses! We go through our lives, taken by, and making cognitive systems of choosing. Yet we spend very little time reflecting upon how we construct those systems.

Most of us would admit to the same with our horseracing systems. I hope it has been of interest although I appreciate it is not perhaps what you came looking for when you logged on. Next week I intend to talk about the distinction between systems and methods — at least as I see it. Thanks for your time. Chesham Sire. Good topic, Chigorin , and I'm looking forward to reading how you develop this theme. I think therefore I am.

Chesham said:. Over Longer Distances this has an impact and possibly more so if the going is soft. Some trainers are better at exploiting this loophole in Handicap Races. The Chi factor is one area to explore if any system is down to luck, which of course links to the SP of the qualifiers.

Thanks for the above explanation Chesham. Apologies for my previous over-simplification. The key point I am trying to make is not about any specific system but the general principle that: while any information that gives punters a more accurate idea of which horse is likely to win must be good, we have to be able to relate it accurately to price to know whether a bet is good.

Chigorin said:. Hi Chigorin. Thanks very much for the trouble you've taken here Chesham! I must admit I was a little confused by your previous mentions of chi and SP but now all becomes clear. To some extent we are talking about different things since Archie is an evaluation tool - that is it informs of the accuracy and value advantage of a number of bets AFTER the results are in for a GROUP of results.

This of course can be used to help predict a series of results in the future. To quote from the above, what Archie does " is to provide a rational test to warn you if your system is performing These are useful distinctions to be aware of so thanks for bringing them out. I will say some more about this next time when I will try and be more careful to define exactly what I mean when I use phrases like, "system", "method", "component" and "approach".

A very interesting thread, and some very useful informative inputs, good luck with it, chigorin. Concepts for design Thanks for coming back. Last week I introduced this blog by trying to draw parallels in their relation to choice making of the development of a betting system with the process of conscious evolution. I argued that what determines the success of each is the ability to accurately assign importance to information selected from an almost infinite pool of data and experience.

I argued too that it is self-awareness in the creation of these systems that governs progress. By constructing systems, whether of betting, or in thinking processes, it is by deliberate design that the most effective improvements will occur. I want to add that I think the possibility of learning from this similarity goes both ways: Things learned from betting systems can inform our understanding of consciousness, and also from consciousness to betting systems.

By studying how you construct your own betting system you can learn something about how you personally think and live. Equally, I think there is massive scope for taking observations or learning from your everyday life and applying it meaningfully in your betting systems.

This is a theme that we will return to but this week I want to define some terms to help make what I am saying is as clear as it can be. I do not claim they are shared universally or in fact by anybody else. However a great deal of misunderstanding will hopefully be avoided if you know what I mean when I use these words.

I will assume too, that unless you say otherwise, you are using them in the same way should you make any comments in the thread — which I hope you will. These are both concerned with identifying on which horse we decide we should bet. Already, and this is entirely my own fault, this has led to some confusion in discussion in this thread. In other words if something is a system then my averagely bright 9 year old daughter should be able to operate it and get the same result you or I do, assuming she correctly calculates any formula.

I draw the line at my wife. Similarly it would be possible, in theory, to programme a machine to use it. Let us make up a system so as to give an example. We need to know 6 things to be able to use The Kempton System. Normally this is a Boolean true or false or numerical value. For this system if we can tick all these boxes then we bet. Even my wife could have a fair go. No subjective judgement is needed. If you look at a racecard and think that a horse seems to have real promise because you saw it run strongly at the end of its last race and it has gone up in trip against what you consider to be a weak field, then you are making a judgement that is not guaranteed to be shared by all those presented with the same evidence.

It may be that you have made several systematic calculations prior to or after this judgment, but the necessity of your individual input into the process means we must label the process as a method and not a system. At least one component in a method requires a personal judgement. A good example of a tipster who uses a method is Hugh Taylor. This is because even if we complete the same tasks, watch the same videos, read the same figures etc, a qualitative judgement is involved which means it is possible for us to reach distinct conclusions.

As you will be aware, there are advantages and disadvantages for both systems and methods. Here are just a few. Because systems objectively repeat the same process precisely and in a defined way we can inspect and test them accurately. Working with systems should be like working with chemicals in a lab — they will always obey the rules which govern them.

They therefore have many of the advantages that you would expect of a scientific approach. We can isolate components and alter them, test and retest and this will normally be possible to do with historical data. Systems are more likely to avoid human error although misreading or miscalculation is still possible since we can be confident that we are looking at the same thing every time.

A disadvantage of a system is that is always a mechanical simplification. It never grabs the whole picture but just those components we have assigned importance to. In a sense it is a model that tries to replicate reality but is destined always to fall short.

Or better yet use some of the many online sources available through a subscription who do this work for you. Money Management Systems. Right off the bat, money management systems provide much more value to the gambler. The biggest mistake gamblers make is mismanaging their money. The very first rule of thumb is never ever gamble with more money than you can afford to lose.

Even serious gamblers need to pay the bills and put the kids through college. Most reputable money management systems will instruct you to establish a bankroll to be used as your gambling fund. Once your bankroll has been established, you must have the discipline to accept that as your ultimate betting limit. In the gambling world, that's the soundest advice you will ever get and you just got it for free.

From there, the typical money management system will establish a set of guidelines to be used when deciding how much to bet on each race or sporting event. For the most part, one system is as good as another as long as it makes sense to you and does not require you to exceed your betting limit.

When using a system, you must adhere to the established guideline to give the system the opportunity to work as prescribed. Once you go beyond the guidelines, the system is no longer valid and you are on your own. Consistency and discipline are the keys. No matter what systems you employ, you need to be realistic with your expectations.

You are gambling and when you gamble, the odds are not in your favor. You are better off to learn to enjoy yourself and appreciate any profits that come your way. In other words the best betting system is the one that works for you. This 'best betting systems' article was written by Horse racing enthusiast John Hawthorne.

A disadvantage of a system is that is always a mechanical simplification. It never grabs the whole picture but just those components we have assigned importance to. In a sense it is a model that tries to replicate reality but is destined always to fall short.

Our model is, at any one time rigid and inflexible which is its strength too and this can be a real weakness. For example, if we used The Kempton System but we see that the next entry that fulfils its requirements has a donkey literally a donkey drawn in the inside stall, the system is too inflexible to deal with this. A method offers this flexibility. Although it is easy to apply and test our tuition when it comes to donkeys, most other judgements are going to be in a grey area.

Word is out that the trainer has admitted his horse it is a horse this time! How dramatically does the price have to fall, how much credibility does the source of this rumour have to have for us to act on it? These are questions that it is going to be impossible to verify our response to scientifically. This is what makes it difficult to evaluate methods. In reality most us of use methods rather than pure systems, since apart from anything else, we are human and not immune to influence.

This will help when we come to review and improve this design. There are other elements, outside of the selection process, that will determine our success as a gambler. How many races do we analyse, how much, how often do we bet. How much we review and test our system and method. For example, do we give up on a system if it is running at a loss over races? Whether we actually follow our method or make exceptions.

Which bookmakers we use. Maybe even what time of day we bet. Whether we trust our system. All these elements and many more go into determining what bets we actually place. As we said at the beginning, more consciousness is the route to progress. Only since I made them and spent many more hours using them to design my method have my results have improved.

I hope we share some building blocks now that we can use to discuss, design and experiment our own systems and methods. Next week I want to start looking at systems in greater detail and in particular assumptions we might make about our systems. Wayne Bailey. Patrick Veitch. Thoroughbred Pedigrees Simplified.

It has a rating system where you can rate each dog against the rest. There is also a section on staking at the back of the book. I back dogs regularly and since reading this book i have noticed an improvement in my bets. But you should always remember that with dogs there is nearly always that first corner where sometimes even odds on dogs can loose a race. Iv read a couple of David Ducans books mostly Horseracing , and they where very good and excellent reads , but this Greyhound book is very very good and a excellent read.

Very informative. I purchased this book with the hope of finding a per for my weekly fixed odds pools entry. Fortunately I found the ideal one which allowed me to enter seven selections in just seven lines with an excellent guarantee. This is a great buy at the amazon price and it gives basic information on what sort of bets to utilize depending on the type of race, aswell as useful tips on how to pick the dog with the best chance of winning without studying to be a "form guru".

It is quick to read and there are no problematic sytem wagering ideas to confuse you. I found this book to be super useful, it could do with updating written but never the less contains loads of info on form study as well as system suggestions.
